I suspect John Bercow has always been a John Bercow MP and nothing else.

In some kind of inverse sort of way, surely it must be an "honour" not to be admitted to the House of Lords?  Why should it be naturally expected that because you are elected to be an MP and have the honour to sit in Parliament representing your constituents, you should in some way, in time, progress to the H of L?  And just look at the kind of company you find there.  Failed former members of parliament, broken down ex Trades Union hacks, in fact failures from just about every walk of life; folk who have never done any good at anything!  The only honourable members who might be encountered are maybe one of the few remaining apolitical hereditary peers who have no particular axe to grind.

Ian Botham isn't   a failure! Otherwise I largely agree with you, although I did know one member (hereditary) who was most certainly another non-failure - the late Michael Onslow, Earl Onslow

I don't care what they call him, he'll always be Mr Squeaker to me.

He loves the pomp & ceremony, wouldn’t surprise me if he already has the outfit for the Lords in his wardrobe.
It was Jeremy Corbyn who recommend him for the Lords, I wonder what Bercow actually thinks of Corbyn now after his demise in the Labour Party?
I’m a real he/him.

Many years ago I saw "Onslow" in a farce on Bournemouth pier theatre.  He spoke with a beautifully modulated "Oxford" accent with no trace of his Scouse origins.  It proved what a versatile actor and amiable gentleman he was.

Perhaps Bercow, Campbell & Soubry should stand in the next general election. Their complaining borders on vicious.
