The film '633 squadron' has a strong similarity to the real daylight air raid by Mosquitoes on Amiens Prison in 1944 in attempts to release (or kill) a top rank resistance member from the French prison before the Gestapo could persuade a certain prisoner to disclose top secret information. Although the raid was carried out with considerable precision, daring and bravery by the RAF aircrew, sadly it resulted in 102 prisoners killed by the bombing, 74 wounded and of the 258 that escaped most were recaptured. The RAF lost 2 mosquitos and two Typhoons and of course their brave aircrews. Later there would be controversy over who had ordered the attack and was it really necessary.
