The lack of Helicopters for our Troops
« on: Jul 17, 2009, 07:12:12 PM »
In 1992/93 Rolls Royce, were allowed to close down their "Small engine division" Factory  at Leavesden in Hertfordshire. This factory produced the engines for the Gnome and Gem, That were used in the Sea king, Wessex, and Lynx Helicopters, and had  Testing /development, facility.
second to none. The Falklands, and The first Gulf war, were supplied with engines from Leavesden,
2,000 skilled people were  thrown out of work, And this Factory was turned into a Film studio,
That filmed Golden Eye. This is the real reason, we are short of HELICOPTERS,

There is no lack of helicopters.

This Labour Government choose not to purchase them or many
other items of equipment.

The same decision making that took us to War in the first place,
on a dossier of managed lies...

I acknowledge the closing down of British Manufacturing in this
field. But like Cars and the majority of the High Street. They
do not have to be British...

A shortage of helicopters? what rot.  There are adequate helicopters available. Even though some Mp said there were shortages, Gordon says there are adequate so it must be right.
The problem is that the adequate numbers of helicopters aare not in Afghastlystan but in a hanger here in the UK. here are a large number of fighting helicopters bought, at great expense, from the US. However on delivery it was discovered that all the US installed electronics were not compatible with ours, so complete systems had to be designed and retro fitted after the removal of the expensive but useless US kit. The completion date for this work, around 2012 by which time the majority of the hardware will be obsolete. Another little gem that labour has kept very quiet about.  :-\
