Classical Music
« on: Oct 08, 2012, 10:00:38 AM »
What a fabulous show the Classical Brit awards where last night.
Pat and I sat spellbound. Listening it was as if you where there in the Theatres.
We where really Taken by "The Phantom of the opera" such wonderful Voices.

Sir Anthony Hopkins won an award for writing a Waltz alongside classical stars Gareth Malone and the Military Wives, Nicola Benedetti and Andre Rieu.
Andrea Botcelli won a well deserved award I could just go on an on about the variety of talent.
Put shows like the X Factor to shame.

Terry
I must confess that I just like Good Music where ever it comes from not the stage managed and manufactured fashionable efforts of the X factor.
It goes a long way to stopping up-and-coming young talent in this country.
People who have grafted the hard way through the school of Hard Knocks to get on.
If you cannot do someone a good turn never do them a bad one.

Fraid I missed this last night, reason - I forgot!! :-[
"Don't you know?" said Miss Marple.
"No, I don't," said Craddock.  "Do you?"
"Oh, yes, I think so," said Miss Marple.  And she twinkled at him.

 :) :) :)

Ludwig Van Beethoven aka "the old radical" is my favourite composer & has been since I went to my first concert with my parents as a 13 year old & I heard Rossini's Overture "Semiramide", Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No: 1 in B flat Minor, Beethoven's Symphony No 5 in C minor & from that day I've loved & thoroughly enjoyed his music since.

Although not as prolific as some composers the music has such a lot of differing emotions to it, especially when listening to some of the lesser played pieces such as his songs, dances & his choral pieces.

The old radical's 9th is one of my favourites or for those who don't know Ludwig Van Beethoven' 9th Symphony in D minor " The Choral". When one considers he was totally deaf & at the end of the performance the leader had to turn him to the audience so he could see the applause.  ;) ;) ;) ;)

There are so many beautiful pieces - Bruch violin concerto No 1 , FJ Haydn 104 London Trumpet Concerto especially the cadenza in the finale!

I love listening to Baroque & Classical period music, there's something very relaxing about the pieces.

On Classic fm, the evening concert this month is concentrating on great composers, Thursday was Beethoven, last night was Handel, I'm not sure who's on Monday I think it's Bach.  ;) ;) ;)

For those that are interested, the Great Composers Full Works concerts this week are:

Monday - Bach
Tuesday - Grieg
Wednesday - Schubert
Thursday - Rachmaninov
Friday - Gershwin

Enjoy the music.

After the 2 minutes silence this morning they played Edward Elgar's "Variations on an Original Theme" - very sombre music, but the right music at the right time.  :-X :-X :-X

Followed by Purcell's Dido's Lament. Enchanting.

Has anybody read John Suchet's biography of Beethoven yet, if so what's it like as I've got the book but don't have the time to read it just yet.  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
