Snitching on benefit frauds - and getting paid for it !
« on: Feb 09, 2010, 01:46:38 PM »
There is discusssion going on in the Labour government at the moment to consider paying the friends and neighbours of benefit cheats for informing on them.

Do you think that this is a right or proper thing to do ?

See this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/feb/08/benefit-informers-snitch-policy

What do you think?

It amazes me now how the 'do nothing, no idea' government
are putting effort into matters now.

We have enough broken families in Broken Britain - a few
more caused by snitching will not matter...

I asked you first ! ;)

I think that it is awful that the government - ANY government - might try to enlist  the help of paid informants gleaned from the people who live around the ones who in the main do the benefit-fiddling. In most cases this is driven by the fact that these "informants" are in similar circumstances and just hate to see the ones that are working and getting paid benefit while they are not.

It is the poor feeding off the poor and the government know it !

All governments over the years have practiced the act of terrorising the weak and the sick as they are soft and easy targets and yet they do not seem to have the desire or courage to go after the big and strong ones that REALLY do the cheating.

While I must admit that benefit cheating is wrong I always have to put these "crimes" into context before I get hot under the collar about them !

Just what is a benefit cheat?

It seems that this government is great at targeting the £5 a week overpayments.

But when it comes to people having multiple identities and invented children.

They seem to take it hook, line and sinker.

The millions of pounds spent on advertising shows nothing except someone
actually working and claiming.

When the major problem is just false claims and poor administration.

The advertising is just another Labour waste - trying to make out all these people
can actually get a job.

Sheesh.... It's not just "Labour" waste as this has been going on for hundreds of years and through many right and left wing governments of the past.

I WILL agree though that it does seem as if the government spend an inordinately large amount of time and money and effort attacking the simple "cheats" while they spend little time and effort going for the bigger or more complicated ones.

I am sure that if this - or any other government - were to really target the BIG frauds instead of spending so much time attacking the people who have nothing to start with they could easily finance all of the fraud that goes on at the bottom end.

It is certainly not rocket science to prevent fraud.

That said, it must be to this present government.

It has all the records, computerised at that.

Access to millions of cameras, access to all communications.

Even down to electronically stripping you off at airports,
how much more does it need or how many more millions
does it need to employ to do something approaching a proper job?
