What TV advert annoys you the most.
« on: Feb 25, 2010, 05:12:57 PM »
The one that annoys me the most when an old HAS BEEN comes on trying to sell us life insurance. A present when you sign on, and a biro just for making an inquiry. Its for life  so you cannot back out. Its a rip off as far as I can see and we would be far better off placing our savings, in a saving account. >:( >:(

Labour Government adverts that waste millions of pounds of our money.

Invented by quangos to fool the masses that they are actually doing something.

Never has so much been spent in producing so little.

In surveys more people are cutting out adverts by being a few minutes behind on live pause.

Recorders were stopped from omitting adverts automatically. To stop further development the break ready signal is not openly displayed any more in most circumstances.

Some people have a very low threshold to advertising influence. Oblivious or not interested in certain marketing techniques. That counter that influence.

UK television follows the same break cycle so if you turn over to a commercial station, you will always get advertising at those times.

The Quangos laughingly controlling all this have allowed more and more liberties to be taken. This works against those easily influenced and who should be protected.

Unfortunately (for the advertisers) I have been influenced by TV advertising - I will not and have not purchased anything that has been advertised by So Called 'Celeb's' of pensionable age who having already made considerable fortunes during their normal working span now try to get us to spend even more so they may still get their fat fees.
I will also not deal with anyone who uses Ruby Wax in their adverts. Typing her name make me shudder!
As for That fellow Parkinson ....... I'm spitting blood!

The amount of Government based advertising on Channel 4 looks
like public money being poured in via the back door.

They want BBC to share their huge pot of public money with Channel 4.
They may have started.

The BBC are on a defensive tack of 'overspend' at present.

I too will not buy anything which has what I consider to be an annoying or patronising advertisement, there's a lot of them about, and they drive me nuts! >:(

I'm also very aware of the psychology behind the ads, some agencies think we are all morons!

Having watched the marketeers for many years I have decided that TV advertising is slotted into one of three types:

1). The annoying and cringe-making kind !

2). The purely entertaining kind !

and....

3). The "save-money" kind !

The annoying and cringe-making kind ( of which the majority are made ), are meant to stick in our memories without any conscious desire for this to happen. These are the most insidious of all of the adverts as they appeal to our dark subconscious memories and are referred to without us even knowing about it.

The purely entertaining ones are remembered BECAUSE they entertain us and anything that has a "feelgood" factor attached to it can influence us at a later date. STILL rather sneaky as far as I am concerned.

The third kind, which include BOGOF, BTGOF and other bulk-buying techniques are there to appeal to our feelings of greed and avarice and as HG says we should be able to see right through these ones by realising that the best way to save is to not spend at all.

As this thread shows, all of these advertising tricks get us talking about them and if nothing else has been gained I am sure that the marketeers will be satisfied with that. 8)

Whatever one thinks of commercial TV and the advertising that they push at you, it is FREE unlike the BBC. I would be more than happy if the BBC went commercial and saved me £200+ a year. I really object to paying for the TV licence knowing that yobs like Ross and others are being paid ridiculous salaries with it! GO COMMERCIAL BBC!

A subject diversion, but a very relevant one at that !

I think that the mass of the people of Britain - if given the chance - would be happy if that particular bit of compulsory taxation was scrapped tomorrow !

Channel 4 advertises and receives public money to operate.

The BBC advertises outside the UK.

The TV Licence is a Tax. This Government have been trying to dress this up as
value and as something else while raising it year on year.

It has allowed and supported the BBC to hide salaries and costs.

It has allowed excessive salaries and a fat cat level at the BBC.

The BBC is not independent, it is government controlled.

This government are masters at turning a blind eye to matters
that they are actually responsible for. Fooling the public as they go.

84% ownership of a Bank and no say.

100% ownership of a Public Corporation and no say.

How pathetic...

There is another class of advert that at some stage must be subject of more scrutiny and regulation.

These are the Big Business, Big Production 'Charity' adverts.

There are many vulnerable people and when asked for money they are unable to use judgement and just send it.

They are the modern version of begging letters.
