British Summer Time

Is there any real need for this now?

If you need light to match your day - just get up earlier or later.

Is it that simple?

I believe we should stick to GMT full stop.

Can never remember which is which! Winter time is GMT and Summer time is GMT+1?

From a practical point of view I think where we are now with our time, the one hour ahead of winter time, is the place to be and where we should stay.

During the winter it would be darker in the morning but then everyone is rested and alert. In the evening it will be lighter when people are retuning home when they are tired after a days work.

This post is my opinion, which you may not like, but I'm entitled to it.

I would expect that if the UK ever made a decision of its own.

Europe would step in and impose Central European Time (CET).

Your description brings to mind L S Lowry and his view on matters.
