Who is Lowry ? I used to watch a painting teacher on sky and he was amazing and I bought tons of oil and acrylic tiny tubes of paint wanting to copy the man on TV . Sadly I couldn't keep up because I didn't have a pause button then and my paint went all dry and yucky x

L S Lowry Bea. A Northern artist famous for his townscapes and factory scenes. Very primitive style but his paintings are worth an awful lot of money. If you Google his name you'll see some. Very identifiable style. " He painted matchstick men and matchstalk cats and dogs. He painted kids on the corner of the street who were sparkin' clogs.."

I vaguely knew one of the blokes that wrote it but it was very well known. I like the little girl's choir of St Winifred's School, they did a grand job. ;D

One of his famous paintings.

Oh my gosh grannyMac that is just so so beautiful . That sounds so daft and then when you look it's mind blowing . Thank you grannyMac and they actually sell copies and how wonderful is that . Is he still alive ? You wouldn't believe a painting of matchstick people could take your breath away but look at the teeny details . Thank you xxxxxxxx

Beannie, he died forty years ago. He was an interesting character, he worked as a rent collector.  He also turned down a knighthood. If you want to read more about him, just google LS Lowry and you'll get lots of info.

Hello and thank you all for your comments, the painting that my wife had done was in the shape of match stick men, which is why I mentioned to her about the similarity.to Lowry, and of course she painted a small picture  too. which really was experimental ,but she,s getting better,

Alfashton that's how artists are born...slapping on colour.  I have nil talent and a few completed efforts but really enjoyed trying. Which comes first drawing? Or just putting brush in colour to paper.

Hello Firenze.

its almost like the chicken and egg syndrome, which came first ,??
in your case I assume the pencil,
how ever when ever iv seen talented artist on the t,v they make drawing and painting look so easy that we think to ourselves,  I could do that,
my wife likes to dabble at it and thats it but she does enjoy it, and finds it very relaxing,
