IN ANY EVENT,

Seeing the car, in the used dealers, car showroom, Fred Harris liked what he saw, the car was more modern better than his old Morris minor, poor old thing it was badly rusted, and in the fifteen years that he had it, and the many memories of the girl friends he had had in it, too,

Memories of driving.it All over the place, long journeys to Cornwall, and other times longer journeys again this time up to Scotland, and every where else in-between, making the parting even sadder,
Oh well he mumbled to himself, time to get a move on, thinking lets get it over with-it was then that  the smiling salesman that came towards him rubbing his hands in eager anticipation of a sale,
good morning he said my names jack, how can I help you, the car your looking at only came in yesterday morning,  these fords are a very reliable car, providing you have them serviced regularly,  the previous owner a lady bought a new one from us, she  said that she had had it from new, and that it  had been regularly maintained, and serviced,

please check it over and have a good look around .as you can see the cars in very good condition, if you need any more  help ill be in the office,
Fred did just that, he looked inside, outside  underneath, checking under  the bonnet, and inside boot, jack was right the car had been looked after it was almost in tip top condition, feeling satisfied ,

half an hour later he had felt pleased with his purchase, all the documentation done,
the following day it was sorting out the road tax, insurance, making sure the M.O.T still had  almost ten months left on it, later that day he called into the garage to collect the car, first stop garage to fill up the petrol tank, check the tyres over, then he was off,

reversing his ford into  his garage , his old Morris parked out on the road, looking a sorry sight as it waited for the breakdown lorry to arrive, it was twenty minutes later when the lorry turned up,  the driver worked  quickly, soon he saw the car on the back of the lorry, as it slowly made its way down the road as it  trundled out of sight,   seeing that the ford needed a wash, he set to work, then came the polish, finally it got a good hoovering, in under two  hours the car looked great,

it was whilst he was looking in the glove box, and at the car manual,  in between the pages there was a envelope, to which inside was a  letter written, he presumed to the last owner. the lady's address clearly on the front,
he put the envelope inside a larger one, and re-addressed it back to the lady
a week later he received a reply, in which she thanked him and  asked if he would meet her in town ,which he did the following Tuesday,
it was in the  café where  they were having tea and sandwiches that she told him about her brother, her name was Janet thorn, and she earned her living as a free lance writer,

apparently her brother  was a bio chemist, and was working in south Africa, at times his work had taken him to many parts of the world, and that she was expecting him home soon, he would be home for a month before returning back to Africa, she went on to explain that in the letter was the time and place of  the airport where he  would be landing, it was Heathrow terminal three, she hadn't made note of it but  luckily all the information was in the letter that fred had sent her, and that was why she wanted to thank him personally,

in the ensuing months fred and Janet saw a lot of each other, and they slowly and gradually their friend ship grew, they became lovers,
some times they used Janet's car and other times it was freds, seeing friends going to the theatre, and shows in the west end,
one day he was on the way to Janet's home when his car broke down, he phoned for the breakdown service,

when the driver climbed down from the lorry, recognising fred he said what you again, then he went on to say ill tow you to the garage for repairs, on the way ill be passing  the  old scrap metal yard,
and by the way your old Morris minor is still there, should you need it, laughing as he climbed back up into the lorry,

the end,
