John Wayne made 19 films between 1941-1945 so he had no time to go to war-I think there was a bit of John Ford influence there.

I believe John Ford himself served in the Pacific as a photographer and producer of US navy training films and such.

Wayne's war films always had the same squads. There'd be the big, gentle lummox, a black guy, a hispanic, a quiet, 'perfessor' type, a coward and a Polish guy called Kowalski.

This afternoon I watched a war film I had never seen or heard of before....
...To End All Wars......
It is the true story of 4 POW's of the Japanese and was based on the memoirs of Ernest Gordon who was one of the POW's and served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders....for me it was one of the best war films I have ever watched.
I watched it on my Amazon Firestick through Amazon Prime.
