I love a real fire, but not as the only form of heating. I can remember shivering on a cold morning waiting for the fire to take hold.  As well as central heating, both my kids have wood burners, I love them on a winter's evening.

Yes, if I want to go out at night of course I can. Why?

I wouldn't buy a house that didn't have a proper chimney.  Like Granny Mac, I wouldn't want it to be the only form of heating,  but many houses here we also have oil  heating. Our friends with the smallholding have an Esse wood burning range that heats their house, provides hot water and is used for cooking.   They also have electricity as a backup.

Later this month, I'll get a load of logs delivered.  Depending on the type of wood, a load is 1 1/2 to 2 tons.
You'll have had your tea.

Didn't they introduce regulations on what wood could be sold recently? It all has to be dried now but maybe yours was before. From what I can make out dried wood is dearer but burns more efficiently.
So long and thanks for all the fish
