A prayer at the end of the day
« on: Aug 09, 2011, 05:38:58 AM »
Hi,
Does anyone remember the following:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6wSB7iiYy4
I remember having heard this played on my first tranny and I would be content to go to sleep at a respectful
time with no fear of having our home burned down or being attacked and at that time I lived and was
born in centre of London, just after the 2nd world war being happy to be alive as my parents taught me
to be for as a youngster we could see all around us wrecked/ bombed homes and knew we were so lucky
to be alive.
I sometimes feel that perhaps a little more of being able to realise just how rich we are to have life
as it certainly did for so many Londoners at that particular time, may help us all in these particular
difficult times.

As soon as I saw the title I just knew what the prayer would be and started singing it in my head! Like you I also loved Radio Luxembourg, secretly listening to it on a crystal-set under my pillow (circa 1946?) - 208mtrs, Medium Wave - wonderful ::) I I still remember the words!

At the end of the day just kneel and say
Thank you Lord for my work and play,
I've tried to be good, for I know that I should,
That's my prayer for the end of the day.
This post is my opinion, which you may not like, but I'm entitled to it.

Hi again,
Thank you for replying.
I am so glad that you both remembered this little prayer/song, as for singing it to the little ones
that's so lovely lets hope they in turn do same when older.
After I posted here early this morning, I suddenly thought oh goodness people will think what an
early bird I am, when in all truthfulness I have not been so in the past, however I was today because my husband
is so poorly and I looked on the internet for a prayer to help me and seeing this on YOU TUBE did the trick
flooding back so many memories of my childhood and family that I so miss but remember with great affection.
Best wishes.

Thanks picadily for the lovely memory. Keep strong and hope your husband is feeling a bit better. :)
Never look down on anyone, unless it is to offer your hand to help them up.
