My London born ma in law could never get the hang of the 'ch' sound, pronouncing it as a hard 'k' as in muck. Many with English accents do the same. Apologies if I'm wrong. 😌
I'm sure you're right. Brits, and the English particularly, seem happy to ignore the correct way to pronounce 'foreign' words and names. It's not that hard to hear a word and mimic the user's pronunciation and it's always appreciated everywhere, except back home. Had a squirmy occasion in the Co-op when I asked for a bottle of Rioja, pronouncing it correctly and was assured that they didn't sell it. I was stupid enough to point it out, to the obvious embarrassment of the lady assistant and my mortification.
