I came out of my trade (plumber with business) and bought a hotel in Blackpool.
We took that decision because my business was just wearing me down.
It was sticking a pin in the Exchange & Mart for a business, even went after a hardware shop in Wales....just wanted a new venture.
Anyway, we ended up with a hotel.....special subject “Hens & Stags”. It was graft, pure and simple.
Never had punter trouble but it was 24/7.
We own a place in France, an investment. Sitting tenants, both Brits & retired. Formerly a teacher and professor, they’ve live in France over 20 years.
Personally because of the current climate ie left the EU, there is some animosity lingering. My tenants tell me it’s not directed at them but both are fluent in French, so they pick up certain tones.
We bought the place under a company name, an off the shelf one.
I think to be in your 30s or 40s, it’s a grand idea, later years and at times it becomes a mission with sleepless nights.
Just to add.
We nearly got ripped off in Blackpool by the seller.....a slimy good for nothing. The courts had ordered him to sell due to his divorce, of course he put up every obstacle not to sell.
It finally came to a head when he foul mouthed my wife on the phone. Left my wife in tears, left me with a two hour drive to Blackpool to sort him out......I did & he then sold it to us.
I wish you well on your venture but just be careful.
