share/buy/work an Hotel in the South of France
« on: May 04, 2021, 11:40:28 AM »
Hello everybody, I am new to this forum, and would like some feedback if possible, on an idea I have had for a long time.

I have found a magnificent thirty three bedroom (all en suite) Hotel near Lourdes in the midi pyrenees. My proposition very loosely is for perhaps around ten of us to invest around thirty five thousand pounds to enable the purchase. We then have an en suite bedroom for holidays or retirement or work six months of the year. The Hotel is set in four acres with spectacular views. After Brexit we can stay one hundred and eighty days a year in two lots of ninety, or we can apply for a residence permit. We then muck in together and run the Hotel with the remaining rooms. The investment would be secured by the freehold of the building.

There is obviously a huge amount to discuss, but for anybody wanting to carry on working to supplement their income I think it has possibilities.           My name is John (honest)

Although good in theory, trying to find one reliable person will be hard never mind 10 people.  its's odds on that at least one of them will let you down bigtime, even family can't be relied on when it comes to going into business together and money.

I doubt there is one person here I would want to undertake a financial transaction with let alone 10.

I came out of my trade (plumber with business) and bought a hotel in Blackpool.
We took that decision because my business was just wearing me down.
It was sticking a pin in the Exchange & Mart for a business, even went after a hardware shop in Wales....just wanted a new venture.
Anyway, we ended up with a hotel.....special subject “Hens & Stags”. It was graft, pure and simple.
Never had punter trouble but it was 24/7.
We own a place in France, an investment. Sitting tenants, both Brits & retired. Formerly a teacher and professor, they’ve live in France over 20 years.
Personally because of the current climate ie left the EU, there is some animosity lingering. My tenants tell me it’s not directed at them but both are fluent in French, so they pick up certain tones.
We bought the place under a company name, an off the shelf one.
I think to be in your 30s or 40s, it’s a grand idea, later years and at times it becomes a mission with sleepless nights.

Just to add.
We nearly got ripped off in Blackpool by the seller.....a slimy good for nothing. The courts had ordered him to sell due to his divorce, of course he put up every obstacle not to sell.
It finally came to a head when he foul mouthed my wife on the phone. Left my wife in tears, left me with a two hour drive to Blackpool to sort him out......I did & he then sold it to us.

I wish you well on your venture but just be careful.
I’m a real he/him.

You were brave taking on a B&B. One of my husband's musician friends did the same in Scarborough.  Hard work indeed.

Not what they were saying - at least, not what their politicians were saying - in 2014
