Anyone else woken up to snow? Just 7 weeks until the summer solstice!

We sat in the conservatory yesterday evening and hailstones hammered on the roof.

There were more this morning and now the sun is shining but it's very cold.

2C first thing. Snow on the far hills, but not locally. Temperature has staggered up to 6C at 1530

I went out to the car lunchtime, the sun was shining and then came hail stones the size of Smarties !   It didn't last long, but what strange weather we're having at the moment.

B-I-L in Perth, 13 miles away, also had heavy hail today. Very slight rain shower is all we have experienced.

What came as a real shock was the Weatherman saying it was only seven weeks to longest day.
When was the last time we had a May like this, do you think we'll get a summer or was the few good days last month, it. :-\

I started keeping a diary in 2007, devoting a page to each date. It is really intriguing to look back. A week or so ago, one year we had snow, on another it was so hot that Veronica decided it was too hot to sit outside! The short answer is yes - we have had May weather like this; we have also had May weather totally unlike this

Back in about 1972 or thereabouts, Derbyshire's first class cricket match had 'snow stopped play' - in JUNE!
Mike (can't remember the exact date)

Checking back, rather than trusting to memory, the latest date upon which I recorded a snowfall was the 28th April 2016. We had snow in April in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 2018 and this year 4th of April. My memory was at fault in thinking I had recorded snow - as opposed to some pretty heavy frosts - in May in any year since I started my records in 2007

Now heavy frosts, those I do remember. Up at 6am to scrape the load of ice of my car so as I could be in the pool for 7am. Bbbrrrrr, hated them.

me too. When Niall was still at home and Veronica and I were working, if she was on a late she would be home about 8:30, whereas I was usually back about an hour earlier, and Niall was usually last home after being with friends. So, about 0545 I would be out defrosting the cars - we had a narrow drive, so they were nose to tail. Scrape the ice of Niall's car, drive it into the road. Scrape the ice off Veronica's car, drive it into the road. Scrape the ice off my car, drive it into the road. As Veronica had been on a late, drive her car back in first, then drive Niall's in behind it, then, a bit after 0600, I could finally start the drive to work to get there for a bit after 0700
