1. Can't remember his name now but who regularly tortured the English language except that his name was Sydney (Taffler ?) something, and who often kept saying "A touch of the o'be joyfulls" and many more which you could just follow. I think Wogan interviewed him and who for once was finally left speechless. :D

Terry Thomas
Peter Cook
Dudley Moore etc.

Good call right across the board.

Best show for one liners was on ITV between the early 70's and early 90's called 'The Comedians'

In the mid 1990s my 4 month tour of duty in the Falkland Islands including the organisation and hosting of entertainers.

I won't give this comedian's name, as he's still alive, albeit not as well known as he was but, gosh, was he hard work!  He came over as a hilarious extrovert on stage, but off it he was so shy it was painful to see.

I suppose that may be true of many entertainers - we normally only see their public faces, and have no idea of their backstage problems.

Although fallen from grace one of the funniest comedians I've seen live is Micheal Barrymore he knew how to milk an audience

I don't know any 'British' comedians: but I do remember a lot of very funny Irish, Scots and English ones.

A bit late'ish, but:
Max Miller
Harry Worth
Dave King
Dave Allen
Harry ( Neddy Seagoon) Secombe. He could sing a bit, too.
Jethro, of blessed memory.
