I don't think I could name twenty comedians, especially not from the current ones who are restricted by pc and simply unfunny.

My favourites has to be Tommy Cooper - I just have to look at him and I start laughing.

Max Miller a real oldie but I used to listen to my Dad's LP when I was little and laugh along. even though I didn't really understand what he was on about. Far too adult for my young ears. I heard the same LP again when I was in my twenties and realised what it was all about.

I also though Harry Enfield was funny too.

I agree.  I don't recognise any of our present day 'comedians' as such; they are simply not very funny.

I also thought Tommy Cooper was particularly funny, to the extent that he didn't even need to say anything before people started laughing.  When he died on stage, people even laughed at that simply because they thought it was part of the act.

Another favourite was Les Dawson.  I particularly liked his piano playing which, intentionally, 'went wrong' during a performance, but intentionally, which proved that he really was quite a good player.

Yes, the bad piano playing must have been very difficult to do seeing as he could play well. I liked his mother-in-law jokes as well.

Yes, John Cleese is good, though I prefer Michael Palin.
Rowan Atkinson too, though he relies very much on his funny face!

Billy Connoly had me crying with laughter when I saw him live. I have noticed that the stories are 'adjusted' slightly depending on whether he is in Scotland or England.  ;D

Can't think of twenty offhand, but Bernard Manning is up there near the top, as is Ken Goodwin.

My preference is for comediens who have/had real talent - as opposed to those who rely on foul language and lavatory humour.   I don't think I could name 20 of them - but here goes:-

Dave Allen
Tommy Cooper
Eric Morecombe
Ernie Wise
Les Dawson
Harry Secombe
Harry Worth
Bernard Cribbins
Michael Bentine
Peter Sellers

I’ve seen Billy Connolly live several times, in England, always a full house.  His observations are spot on. A younger Scottish comedian, Kevin Bridges, is another one to watch.

I also enjoyed Victoria Wood.  I saw her live a couple of times, exceptionally talented musically too.
