The shout has been about reducing our “carbon footprint” BUT  buyer beware, you’re not allowed to do it cheaply.
Profit v global warming.

Not true, Electric cars are becoming more affordable, even with tariffs on chinese ones.
I notice the Dacia Spring is finally coming to GB, for only 15k GBP! :

EU putting a 38% tariff on Chinese EV imports, what’s not true about that?
If folks are driving around in a diesel motor worth 6k, where do they get the 9k from to get an EV?

Aren’t Electric cars being blamed for the rise in potholes, due to their weight?

Where do you buy a brand new diesel car for 6k? Also, you have to include the lower cost of electricity per mile compared to fuel costs and going to the petrol station to get it.

Also the extra weight is causing some bays in multi-storey car parks to be closed off pending a full structural report as to the extra weight of EV's

Interestingly the top car sales in Australia for June included one EV at #5

  • Ford Ranger
  • Toyota HiLux
  • Toyota RAV4
  • Mitsubishi Outlander
  • Tesla Model Y
  • Isuzu D-Max
  • Mazda CX-5
  • Ford Everest
  • Toyota Corolla
  • Toyota Camry

  • The Ford Ranger diesel ute knocked the Toyota HiLux diesel ute off top position at the beginning of the year and has stayed there

The point being that the Chinese are moving away from dependance on fossil fuels whilst the West is not (much).
Now why on earth would people want to remain dependant on big oil?

Last week my daughter had to go to London with a colleague to visit four Aldi shops. Both have BMW EV’s.
They left their EV’s at their head office & went to London in a diesel pool car.
When I asked why? She said they hadn’t got the time to (a) to wait for a car to be charged &/or to be available, (b) plenty of garages that sell diesel.

She swears by her EV but she has experienced problems on charging. Charging or buying diesel is free to her.

I am quite happy with my 3 litre turbo charged diesel engine. Does what I want.

The fridge in the back uses electricity, that AGM battery has lasted eight years but I have just bought a new one to replace it. Electricity has its place.

Likewise Bruce. I too am happy with diesel load-lugging Pathfinder with her often used tow hitch for my vehicle trailer. Her pulling power coupled with low down grant is very satisfying👍

Ideally, if I could afford it, I’d happily have a small electric car for local everyday use, and a petrol one for long distance or heavy duty use.
    Enough.  I’m done

    Good plan. Here you go:

"Europe's most affordable new electric car is coming to the UK"
      https://www.dacia.co.uk/hybrid-and-electric-range/spring-city-car.html

Small EVs are the perfect runabout for everyday use, if you can park it near a normal socket.
Ours has over 150miles range which is more driving than I would want to do in a normal day.
We have kept the petrol 4wd Suzuki Jeep mostly for getting firewood, driving tracks in the hills and as a spare.
