Ideally, if I could afford it, I’d happily have a small electric car for local everyday use, and a petrol one for long distance or heavy duty use.

I am making sure that I have the cash for this when I have to give up my driving licence..

It's electric.

Son had a Hyundai electric on lease hire for 3 or 4 years, he was pleased with it, but found not so comfortable to sit in for long.
This has now been replaced by another electric car this time an MG , much more comfortable for sitting in, but it has given him no end of trouble cutting out, been in and out of the garage no end of times, and they can never find anything wrong.

Good plan. Here you go:

"Europe's most affordable new electric car is coming to the UK"
  https://www.dacia.co.uk/hybrid-and-electric-range/spring-city-car.html

Small EVs are the perfect runabout for everyday use, if you can park it near a normal socket.
Ours has over 150miles range which is more driving than I would want to do in a normal day.
We have kept the petrol 4wd Suzuki Jeep mostly for getting firewood, driving tracks in the hills and as a spare.

How very cake & eat you are. If you’re keeping a combustion engined vehicle for getting firewood, what should industries do to keep their businesses going?

As for China cutting back on the use of fossil fuels? Their purchasing of said fuels from Russia doesn’t show that, in fact they’re at a all time high.
As we speak, the fossil fuel industries both oil/gas are still drilling & searching for more of the same.
I’m a real he/him.

"What should Industries do to keep their businesses going?"

What do you mean? Car industries should start making electric 4x4 cars that can also go off-road.
They already make electric delivery vehicles which are quite popular.
Diesel engined industry is already working on green electric hydrogen cell or combustion alternatives that perform similar to fossil powered.
Business should, as always, adapt or fail.

As for the oil industry persisting: Well yes, if people are scared to use electric cars, you will totally remain a slave to big oil, your choice.

Perhaps China are not using it 😂

I use to drive for a living. I use to be a Cab driver, but now my eyesight is so bad, i couldn't even drive one of those little  electric wheelchair things. I'd be running people down on the pavement.

You mean "the release of buried Co2 must continue" for climate change to accelerate. Your kids and grandkids will thank you.
And yes, man-made global warming is, sadly, a FACT.

Ha Ha. So true that David.I kept on driving the Cab for a lot longer than i should have done. I had to keep closing one eye to get rid of the double vision. And i couldn't tell anyone because i knew they'd take my license away. But eventually i had to admit it .......  even trying to type on here, i keep hitting the wrong keys.

I have macular degeneration in my right eye, if my left eye had the same vision as my right I would lose my licence but both eyes together mean I meet the standard of vision required to drive.

My reading vision is the worst affected and I can easily hit the wrong key.
That plus my tablet has a mind of its own I'm surprised I don't make more mistakes. :blind:
