Electricity providers must be rubbing their hands looking into the future. Supply & demand always puts prices up. As yet, I’ve yet to see where this supply is supposed to come from?

And if anyone is to be rubbing their hands, you would prefer it to be the oil companies, would you?  Have you taken much notice of the price of petrol?

I have, including the amount of tax that is paid to the government for them to (squander willy nilly), er …use wisely

Another thing people don't realise that there is plenty of grid capacity during the night when electricity is often cheaper anyway.

Would you leave your EV plugged into a public charging point overnight unattended? All well and good if a home charger can be fitted where the EV can be monitored. If I had one fitted, I'd have to pay for new cables to be run in from the road and that distance is at least 75ft if not more. Also i was told if every other house had a charger fitted, then the whole rood will need new cables run from the local transformer which is about half a mile away at least AND the transformer updated. Very little thought has been given to changing over to EV's.

As Scally suggests..

Also, it might be cheaper now, but I doubt it’ll remain that way once things get going.

If you both look at my previous post, you will see that there is already plenty of capacity to slow charge cars overnight from a normal socket.
You never need to exceed the amperage you already subscribed to.  Especially if you don't buy a suspicously large EV.

75ft is only 25 metres. If you can't use a fifty quid extension lead then it's not that expensive to run a cable that distance. Or do you prefer going to a petrol station every couple of weeks and get held to ransom?

Each home charging point has to be registered and it wont be long before a special EV unit rate metering will be introduced, which will be in addition to the standard meter for household consumption. That new EV rate will of course include a road usage tariff for all EV's. How do I know this? I am a SSE shareholder and I keep up to date with all the latest information no matter how squirrelled away it might be.

You don't need a "charging point" to SLOW charge (better for the battery and for your pocket).
 I keep telling people!
You do NOT need to use more capacity than a kettle. Or a 2.2kw bar fire.

Look! A Type 1 charger is all you need. See the fused  3 pin plug?  No "charging point" necessary!

Gas & oil will be around and be used for many a year yet, regardless of how many EVs are produced & sold. Even as we post, Governments worldwide are still issuing licenses for drilling & exploration.
The hard facts are.....industry AND society can’t just not do without gas/oil, they wouldn’t even survive.

Doing without gas and oil is a goal, but in the meantime, the more we reduce our dependency on them, the more it is likely to drive their price down.  Isn't that how competition works?

Yes that is how it works, in the meantime, drilling continues at pace.
It’s anybody’s guess how much electricity will go up in price over the next 5/10 years. One things for sure, the price will continue to rise.
From what I can see over EV sales, it’s companies & not the general public who are going EV.

I have no idea what pace drilling continues at.  Our electricity should be re-nationalised.  The number of EVs on the road seems to be steadily rising, and if there is any reluctance from the general public, I can't understand why.  It's amazing to me that the internal combustion engine in its same basic form has been going as long as it has.  Electric motors are cleaner, quieter, and more reliable, and from what I hear, much cheaper to run.  It seems like a "no brainer" to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against EVs & no doubt when the time is right for me I’ll have one. In the meantime, I’m in no rush.

I can't see many EVs cropping up in the price range I usually buy cars at in the immediate future.  🙂
