On the World Service last night at about 02.15 am and today at about 05.30am,there was a story about Zimbabwe and its collapse. Within the story was another story of the increasing number of Zimbaweans who were coming to this country and being allowed into this country by the the government to fill vacancies. They were coming to fill care worker vacancies but were also teachers, probably other professions as well. To tell the truth I have met and heard of a few Zimbabweans around: more to come I expect. They all seem nice fellows with a slightly different and more agreeable face than their Nigerian counterparts. Nevertheless more are coming, and I expect a lot,lot more to be allowed to come. I guess this will - in part- help break the teachers union, and perhaps others. Now I have mixed feelings about unions,or should I say their leadership. Shorthand: I hate them. Anyways, this will allow the government to smash the union(s)and keep the wages way down. I guess it will also help us diversify the country even more,if you like this sort of thing. What picqued my interest tho was where are we to place all these people coming into the country. Where are they all to live...and poop? I really cant work it all out. Arent we ram packed at the moment? I thought we were. Anyways as this story was rolling out,the next story was 40,50,80? Senegalese people drowning off of West Africa. They were heading to the Canary Islands, then to Spain. Then,if I heard it right, and spoken by one or two of the Senegalese.........you guessed it,England.
Check it out if you wish. It could have been a nightmare. But I am sure it wasnt.
I spend the afternoon chatting to a friend who has just returned from a holiday travelling in Norway and Sweden. I dont talk such talk with her. But in passing she mentioned some migrants now appearing in these countries now. But not in the huge numbers we have here, and in such a small country.
Its beyond depressing
