Remember it well, I was at work and heard it on the radio in my darkroom and went downstairs to tell the rest of the staff. The boss had bought cakes as it was his birthday-not much to celebrate.

I remember so well JFK taking over from Ike - to me as a something 20 something it seem such a changing of the guard, something to leave behind the horrors of the war, after so much time in airraid shelters, and so to see him cut down so callously...

I too remember exactly where I heard about his assassination. I was on the upper deck of the bus in Canterbury Bus Station waiting to go back to Folkestone after a day at Canterbury Tech on day release studying for my City and Guilds.

A girl I knew vaguely told me (and the rest of the bus)

who knows? So many conspiracy theories about that day in Dallas. Read the Warren report when it came out and found it difficult to totally believe, but, who knows?

I was on a bus also - on the long, facing seats near the rear open door. Going down the road to an independent small supermarket which sold the best steak and my cousin was the managing butcher.  A young woman opposite told me [and the rest of the bus] saying "Isn't awful about that young president being shot?  I think he might be dead". His death had been confirmed by the time I was on my way home.  I spent most of Saturday watching repetitions of blurry film and listening to comments.  I couldn't leave it alone.
