I remember cube shaped wooden ones with fluted sides.

Maybe they were Wartime austerity ones?

What lovely games we used to play ...

What about that game called oranges and lemons ... and here comes the chopper to chop off your head.
That'd traumatise kids nowadays. They'd need counselling after playing it.

It's the game that is called Jacks, the objects used whether metal, bone or stones are irrelevant. I do recall the ball that came with shop bought jacks but we never used it, we threw one jack in the air and gathered the appropriate number of jacks before catching it.

(at least that is how I remember it)

Well blow me.   I think you are the only one who knows what I meant, Raven.   :good:

Mups I still have a pack , had them out yesterday showing my little great niece .
She was distinctly underwhelmed .

We also played five stones which was a poor man’s version ,.

Well blow me.  Fancy you still having a set of Jacks.    They might be worth something one day.   :)
I vaguely remember the 5 stones too.

Reminiscing … going to the park and throwing sticks up to get conkers.  Not a member of the health and safety executive in sight.

They cant have conkers in school now as some would compare sizes and we all know how much size matters 😉👍

One up four down, two up three down etc
