Immigrants
« on: Jun 05, 2024, 02:42:45 PM »
Watched Sunak and Starmer last night.  I want a better NHS, our defence beefed up and stopping all the boats coming in.  Who should I vote for :tomato:

Are you sure that's what you want? A better NHS depends on cheap labour to do most of the dirty work and also the doctoring.

Indigenous brits now tend to avoid armed service (while still possible), as they mainly get used for defending Israel nowdays.
The "boat people" had the get up and go to come to GB at great risk and often expense. Cheap labour is exactly what is desperately needed to wean the West off dependance on China and to become competitive again.

We don’t need boatloads of uneducated men from third world countries to work in the NHS .

And “cheap labour”’ does exactly what when competing against China? We & the rest of Europe along with the US can’t compete with China’s production lines in any way shape or form.
Currently the beef of the moment is EVs, that word comes to the fore again, sanctions, why? Because the Chinese Government are dishing out financial assistance to manufactures.
I’m dead against cheap labour, it’s not good for said labour, nor for the folks who lose their jobs through it.

You missed the bit where China is poised to attack Taiwan, which means no more Chinese goods, which means having to make everything ourselves. Unless you want to keep giving them money for their armed forces like you do with Russia?

We? Speak for yourself! I gather a lot of hospital cleaners have foreign accents.
There are a lot of foreign doctors too. In fact the best doctor our small ancient english town ever had was Iranian. He arrived legally.

It’s a balancing act on immigration & for years now it’s been allowed to get out of control IMO.
Without a doubt they’re needed in the NHS & other sectors BUT not to take over.
The NHS workforce always comes up over immigrants but we never seem to hear about how many immigrants are occupying NHS beds or taking up GP appointments. No, I have no objections to giving people healthcare whatever their situation is. Let’s have the other figures though.

It's a pity The Reform Party and the Conservatists can't make a deal.

Yep, the Tories need to stand aside and give those with real Conservative values have a free run at it.
Enough.  I’m done

I haven't heard any of the political parties give us a plausible explanation on how they would stop illegal immigrants.

It's probably good to have legal immigration with the skills needed to do the jobs that need filling, and pay them properly.

It's the illegals who are basically queue jumpers, and who are a drain on the finances of the country, as they expect and get accommodation and healthcare at the taxpayers expense.

Your first paragraph is what citizens of the whole of Europe including the UK want the answer to.
The calls to leave the ECHR wouldn’t stop the boats. The boats need stopping physically, Laws are on paper & in the air, those on the beaches don’t do Laws.
The recent eye opener to me is what’s occurring in the Republic of Ireland, makeshift tents along canal banks & along the streets. That’s in your face stuff & that’s going on in the Med countries.
I think Governments had their chance to take drastic action years ago & just sat on their arses.

Noted yesterday that Biden has now issued an Executive Order relating to their Southern border.......3 years too late. And that where we & Europe....years too late.

As said, it’s physical action needed, Laws are not working for any of us.
EU elections are about to take place, Parties & politicians there are flapping, not because of the migrant numbers but because it’s THEIR JOBS at stake.
I’m a real he/him.

I’ve watched that before, she was well put in her place, like she was when she tried to twist Dennis Skinners words. On that occasion she never knew he was still listening 😂

Just a thought.
Why can’t the Government purchase a cruise ship & anchor it a couple of miles out? These ships have have everything on them. Passenger wise they can take three or four thousand people, vet them onboard, instead of disrupting regions on land.
