I remember plugs you could take off and change, Hubby used to take the plugs off anything that was no longer working to keep in case of need. I feel most things came with some sort of a plug

Mups - you must be very young! Don't suppose you remember round pin plugs. I can remember the Cafe Royal in London had them and I went there and my equipment had flat pins-panic stations. Fortunately I could move faster in those days!

Do tell us what your "equipment" was!

Think I should keep you guessing Purwell. OK 16mm film projector and slide/tape machine at least I didn't have a television and VCR that day. Times have changed a little.

It's probably not my age, Joy,  its more likely to be my memory going!   ;)

Everything you buy now has already got a plug on it..I remember the time it was just the wire and you had to put a plug on yourself.
I remember those days! When my dad bought a (plugless) electrical appliance the shop assistant would ask him if he needed a plug.  He would always reply no, as he had plenty at home.  Only thing was, rather than spend 'good money' on extra plugs, he would just take one off an item that wasn't being used at that moment and fit it to whatever item someone wanted to use.  Same with light bulbs and plug fuses....everything seemed to be on a constant merry go round!  Used to drive me nuts when I went home on leave - I never, ever, had light bulbs in the ceiling light or bedside light, or plugs on my bedside lamp or hairdryer, because they had all been needed elsewhere.

I remember often having two appliances being wire to the same plug simultaneously.  Ie two flexes coming out.

When I was young our house had 3 pin big round pins, 3 pin small round pins, 2 pin small round pins and three pins square pins. It was an absurd system that needed sorting out and standardising.

Did they? Are you sure about that? I thought those sewn helmets were to protect from the cold when aloft, just as our flyers were issued with.
